Counting

System

Beat number on the first syllable

# stands for the beat number. % stands for the eighth-note number in 6/8, 9/8 and 12/8 (1 2 3 4 5 6). Edit any row to make your own set.

Grouping (cross-rhythm)

Groups

The counting words run in groups across the beats (e.g. ta ki gi na ton over 16ths) and restart on each group, with an accent on every group start. Mix sizes for Karnatic phrases, e.g. 7 3 7.
